Central Falls to require face masks in all city-owned buildings beginning Aug. 2

CENTRAL FALLS, RI (July 29, 2021) – Following a rise in COVID-19 cases and the spread of the Delta variant throughout Rhode Island, the City of Central Falls, effective Monday, August 2, 2021, will require all members of the public, regardless of vaccine status, to wear a face mask inside any city-owned public building, such as City Hall, the Police Department, and other city public buildings. City employees will be required to wear a face mask while engaging with the public or in common areas within city-owned buildings.

As one of the state’s hardest-hit communities by COVID-19, the City of Central Falls continues to urge residents to get vaccinated and tested.

“We know what it’s like when COVID spreads like wildfire and causes complete destruction in our city. We can’t let that happen again. Right now, too many of our families remain unvaccinated and are extremely vulnerable to this very dangerous variant of the virus,” said Mayor Maria Rivera. “I hope an increase in masking, an increase in testing, and an increase in vaccines keeps our city safe and we avoid a larger uptick in cases. We need to take these next few weeks very seriously.”

Following new CDC guidance issued July 28, the City is also recommending and encouraging all members of the community to wear a face mask in areas of substantial or high transmission, regardless of vaccine status.
