Valley Breeze: Northern R.I. Chamber announces award winners to be honored at annual dinner Tuesday

LINCOLN – Larry Lucchino, Pawtucket Red Sox chairman and president/CEO emeritus of the Boston Red Sox, will be the keynote speaker at the Northern Rhode Island Chamber’s 25th annual dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Twin River Event Center, 100 Twin River Road. The event begins with networking at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and awards presentations.

Brian and Roberta Hunter of Lincoln and Hunter Insurance Inc. in Manville will be the recipients of the Ben Mondor award. The Hunters are active in the local community as sponsors of the Lincoln Holiday Basket program, the Lincoln High School Post Graduation Event, the community Shred-It event, and as co-sponsors of the Rhode Island State Spelling Bee and The Rhode Island Brain Injury Foundation annual walk.

In addition, they also give to the Milk Fund, the Northern R.I. Food Pantry, and the Family Literacy Center, and have become leading local fundraisers for the Scleroderma Research Foundation.

The Ben G. Mondor award was established in 2011 to honor the former owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox. This philanthropic award is given to an individual who goes above and beyond philanthropically, within the community.

Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa will be the recipient of the Barbara C. Burlingame Award. Mayor Diossa is cited in his nomination for these accomplishments: led the comeback of Central Falls after emerging from a difficult bankruptcy by working to correct the foundational needs of the city while introducing initiatives aimed to stimulate the economic climate in the community, prioritized efficiency in government through the consolidation of city services, by partnering with neighboring Pawtucket for a shared Emergency Management Agency and Housing Inspector, highlighted the city’s vibrant restaurant scene by founding an annual restaurant week, now entering its third year, and the implementation of e-permitting at city hall.

The Burlingame award was established in 2003 to honor State Representative Burlingame and former Chamber Vice President, to recognize a Rhode Island elected official who has made outstanding contributions to the business community. The award recognizes individuals who exhibit the highest standards of excellence, dedication, and accomplishment in the public service arena.
