Central Falls, RI – A swearing-in ceremony for the two newly elected members of the Central Falls City Council will be held onThursday, March 5 at 5 pm at City Hall. Councilwoman At –Large Carlene Fonseca and Ward 5 Councilman Ken Vaudreuil will be sworn in by Central Falls Probate Judge Bruce Sawyer in the City Council Chambers.
“I’m humbled to have received the support of so many Central Falls voters,” said Councilwoman Fonseca. “I pledge to work tirelessly to keep
Central Falls resident’s safe, bring jobs to the city, and improve educational outcomes for all children.”
Fonseca defeated her opponent, Angelo Garcia, 453 to 166 on a wave of community-wide support. She currently works at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy as their Dean of Operations. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 2011 and a master’s in Criminology from George Washington University in 2013. Fonseca also serves on the boards of the Cape Verdean Development Center and the RI Urban League Young Professionals.
“I look forward to working with my fellow council members and Mayor Diossa to move this city forward,” said Councilman Ken Vaudreuil. “I’m excited to draw upon my experience from the council and General Assembly and work on fresh and innovative initiatives for Central Falls.”
Vaudreuil won the Ward 5 seat by defeating Thomas Lazieh 134 to 95 in the February 19 General Election. He had previously has earned the most votes in the four-way Ward 5 Primary held on February 7. Prior to his current term on the council, Vaudreuil served two terms as the State Representative in district 57 (Central Falls & Cumberland) until 2010.
