Tenant will learn important skills and information, including ways to improve their credit score and Fair Housing rights that protect tenants from unlawful practices. Landlords can learn best practices for managing properties.

Home Ownership

Pawtucket-Central Falls Development

 This comprehensive HomeBuyer Education program provides over 100 families per year with financial literacy training, credit counseling and pre-purchase assistance. Graduates of this 8 hour course see their credit scores improve and know what to look for (and avoid) when purchasing their first home.  Research has shown that graduates of homebuyer education programs are less likely to face foreclosure and are more prepared for the responsibilities of homeownership.  The program is led by a HUD certified counselor that works with buyers to create a customized action plan for each buyer.

Rhode Island Housing and our partners offer informational sessions to help you better understand the process of buying and keeping a home. Rhode Island Housing customers who are first-time homebuyers are required to participate in one of these classes. Assistance for Homeowners

BVCAP Weatherization, Heating Assistance and Appliance Management Programs

RIHEAP helps keep families warm through the winter by assisting families with energy costs and reducing the severity of energy-related crises. BVCAP’S weatherization program is available to assist income eligible residents in upgrading their homes to reduce heating bills by providing house energy efficiency services to households that already qualify for RIHEAP.
